Christian literature is not what I read the most often, but when I find a book I in the category that I like, I really treasure it. I started to re-read this for enjoyment as soon as I finished it the first time.

Mildred Budge had been introduced in two previous books, both of which I enjoyed, but this one really "takes the cake," Mildred keeps developing as a character, and in this third book her quirky but entirely believable character really shines.

This must be a difficult genre to write, because so much of the important action is internal. Daphne Simpkins does an admirable job or creating real-world action and giving the reader a picture of the internal reactions of multiple characters --- and their changing interactions with one another.

Fabulous book that is on my "to be read AGAIN" list! Faith, love, discovery, laugh-out-loud moments--this book has it all! I rarely re-read books; this one I will. )
I found this story to be funny and quaint. Reminded me of my mom, my grandmom and ultimately myself.
I live in Montgomery, so I really enjoyed this book because I recognize all the local landmarks. Very well written and very entertaining.
As always, through the full range of emotions we all experience, Daphne Simpkins is superior at showing the inner world of life's true meaning through familiar life events. Well worth the entertaining, hilarious, relatable, and always touching read. These books are keepers. Thank you, Daphne Simpkins.
I enjoyed the other two Mildred Budge books I read, but this one carried a lot more weight. Unapologetically Christian, it presents some heavy theology without ever using the big words like sanctification process, ecclesiology, and existential crisis. Pretty heady stuff, Ms Simpkins. The author also beautifully described Mildred's acute transcendent awareness of the in-breaking of the Kingdom of God in her life, in Mildred's quaint phrase "Jesus saves." It actually made me appreciate that phrase. Looking forward to the next novel about this old girl, which was set-up pretty strongly at the end of Embankment.
Mildred Budge is many things I am not. She is single, southern, 60 to my 69 and quiet. But she is a mature Christian, a good friend and open to change. I found myself wanting to learn from her and anxious to see what happened next. I would recommend this book for Christian women of any age, but especially of later years. It was nice to have a book I could identify with and see ways to grow.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Mildred Budge series that are available on . My daughter and I both read them on our own
kindle devices. We would have loved to be able to read more of them. The characters are believable and pleasant. There
is no cursing or violence in any of the books (outside of a small rock tossed at someone) but I won't spoil it for you. It's a light read and kept us turning the pages wanting to find out what happens next. So much potential for more stories about Mildred and her friends.
