My son absolutely loved this book as a child. He just had his first son, so I asked him if we still had a copy. We figured out that we never did; we just constantly checked it out from the library. So my 3 month old son is getting his own copy for Christmas.

I read this book as a child and enjoyed it. The illustrations are so memorable that I recognized the book immediately when I saw it on . I bought it for my 6-year-old son and he loved it. He was sad about the baby owl dying but found the rest of the book rather amusing. He recognized and loved that the book had a similarity to The House That Jack Built, as it recites the events adding one at a time.
Excellent gift for a teenage young lady relatively new to reading books!
I loved this book as a child because its a great story with a universal message. I married a Nigerian and I can say all West-African children's books have a positive themes and its certainly something I would like my son to be familiar with. The book was also in great condition.
I remember hearing this story for the first time as a child on Reading Rainbow sound effects and all, so when i saw it on I decided to buy it for my sister as a birthday gift. It was a read down memory lane that we can relive over and over again.
Remembered liking this book as a child so I just bought it for my son for Christmas. It's still a good story, but the images are slightly scarier than I remembered. My son seems fine with it but it's something to note.
This was a gift for my 4 year old nephew who is very into mosquitoes for some reason. He loved this book!
This is my favorite children's book of all time. The illustrations are the best I've ever seen, and while dark, they are very creative and fascinating. The story itself is also very good, and I love that it has a point at the end, with a "moral of the story", without being a very long book. I think all children should read it, if parents could get past the dark tone of the illustrations.
